South Carolina General Assembly Act 171 established an Environmental Justice Advisory Committee in 2007. The committee consists of representatives of 12 state agencies and 3 academic institutions and is tasked with studying and considering “existing practices at state agencies related to environmental justice in economic development and revitalization projects in [South Carolina], and to make recommendations as it would relate to environmental justice issues in economic development and revitalization projects” in the state.
